Have you ever found yourself in a leadership role and felt ill equipped? ANMF (Vic Branch) Education Centre is pleased to offer nurses and midwives the opportunity to attend this seminar designed to assist you to develop a nursing leadership framework by discussing leadership and how it can be practiced in nursing. Fundamentals to leadership success, including leadership capabilities, leadership behaviours, leadership skills, and creating a leadership climate, will be explored.


During this one day course attendees will develop skills in:

  • Developing a nurse/midwife leadership framework

  • Identifying issues confronting nurse/midwife leaders     

  • Identifying leadership opportunities and leadership issues in nursing/midwifery

  • Creating a leadership climate 

  • Values based leadership

  •  Developing others 

 Learning Objectives

After participating in this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Answer the questions “what is nursing/midwifery leadership?” and “how does nursing/midwifery leadership differ from management?”

  • Identify the key issues that nurse/midwife leaders should be dealing with in health care environment

  • Identify the opportunities for nurses and midwives to lead in the healthcare environment

  • Discuss and identify the requirements for successful leadership

  • Identify the values that inform and are significant to the practice of leadership

  • Identify a common set of leadership capabilities and associated behaviours that nurse/midwife leaders should practice

  • Discuss and practice the skills that support nurse/midwife leadership

  • Discuss and describe the climate for successful nurse/midwife leadership
