Type 1 Diabetes 2021
The scope of this module is to provide nurses with information about the pathophysiology of type 1 diabetes and its management. In addition, the various skills required to manage the condition well will be discussed.
There are more than 120,000 Australians with type 1 diabetes, which accounts for 10% of all Australians with diabetes mellitus. Type 1 diabetes is the most common chronic condition affecting children. The peak ages for onset are 4-5 years and 12-14 years. Approximately 50% are adults, mostly under the age of 30, however it can develop at any age.
