Clinical Supervision: guiding the supervisee - your hopes, fears and expectations
Note: This course will be delivered remotely via Zoom. This introductory workshop is designed to guide you, the clinical supervisee, through the theoretical and practical fundamentals of clinical supervision. We will explore the key roles and responsibilities of the clinical supervisee, clinical supervisor and the organisation based on the “5 Principles for effective supervision” as outlined in “Clinical supervision for mental health nurses - A framework for Victoria (2018)”. You will be guided through a range of clinical supervision definitions, models and formats as well as the critical importance of the clinical supervision relationship. Practical considerations from choosing a clinical supervisor, to setting up clinical supervision, developing reflective practice skills and evaluation processes together with clinical supervision resources for nurses and midwives are addressed.

Joan is a mental health nurse and family therapist with over 40 years’ experience working in mental health, clinical supervision and education. Joan is a trained clinical supervisor and educator who has provided group and individual clinical supervision as well as co-designing and facilitating clinical supervision workshops for mental health nurses over many years. Joan considers that clinical supervision is a lifelong learning process fundamental to the professional growth of nurses and midwives that will nourish and sustain them throughout their working lives. Joan’s professional interests include clinical supervision, compassion fatigue, family inclusive practices and professional supports for nurses and midwives.
