Swallowing – What’s that cough?

Swallowing is an everyday activity, crucial to life. We swallow over 500 times a day, about three times an hour when sleeping, every minute we’re awake and even more when eating. Approximately one million Australians experience swallowing difficulties (Speech Pathology Australia: Swallowing Awareness Day 16 March 2022).
This practical seminar will provide you with the normal and impaired swallow phases. You will learn about the risk factors for impaired swallowing, including clinical assessments and managing airway protection strategies. Nutritional requirements, refeeding syndrome and administration of medications will all be explored using aged care and acute care setting case scenarios under clinical simulation.
This course is suitable for registered nurses, enrolled nurses and personal care workers.
Please note: This course is currently scheduled to be delivered face to face at ANMF Victorian Branch, 535 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne. Face to face delivery is subject to change dependent on the COVID-safe conditions and restrictions in place on the course delivery date.
